§01 · Macro snapshot

US prints set the rate backdrop because Nordic central-bank data didn't drop in window.

Series Value Prior Δ As of
10Y–2Y Treasury spread 0.30 0.29 +0.01 pp 2026-06-24
10Y–3M Treasury spread 0.56 0.66 –0.10 pp 2026-06-24
High Yield OAS 2.76% 2.63% +0.13 pp 2026-06-24
Unemployment (U3) 4.3% 4.3% 0.0 pp 2026-05-01
Initial jobless claims 215,000 227,000 –12,000 2026-06-20
Sahm rule 0.10 0.13 –0.03 pp 2026-05-01

The credit-spread move is the standout: HY OAS widened 13 bp on the week while the 10Y–3M curve flattened 10 bp. Both directions hint at a less benign risk backdrop than the still-low unemployment print suggests.

§02 · Themes of the week

Norges Bank: one more hike, then a long wait

A Bloomberg economist survey published 25 June puts Norges Bank on a single additional rate move followed by a multi-quarter pause. That sits above the EUR-area glide path Riksbank and the ECB are running, and explains why the NOK has held its ground despite Brent slipping. DNB Bank trades at NOK 293, near the top of its 52-week range (241–300), above both its 200-day and 30-week moving averages — a one-and-done path keeps the regional bank-cycle support intact at the long end.

Counter-thesis: a soft Norwegian wage round in August or a sharp EUR-area cut signal could collapse the hike entirely. The survey is a snapshot of consensus, not a Norges Bank commitment. This would be wrong if Norges Bank skips the August hike outright and signals first cut by year-end.

The Nordic power split, and a German export surge

DK1 averaged €137.29/MWh on the week (+54.8%) and DK2 €136.51 (+58.2%), with a European heatwave coinciding with a nuclear reactor shutdown and tightening thermal supply across Denmark. SE4 followed at €99.38 (+21.7%) and NO2 at €106.53 (+30.0%). The Finnish FI zone sat at €32.19 (+3.0%); northern Norway (NO3, NO5) actually fell.

A north-south summer dispersion of this shape is familiar in shoulder season, but the magnitude this week is not. SE4→DK2 ran +118.4% net, DK1→DE_LU +285.1%, NO2→DE_LU +247.5%. The Nordic system isn't just clearing internally, it's exporting south to a German market that's pulling hard for cooling load. The direction we'd watch: whether the south-Nordic premium widens further into July, or mean-reverts as the heat domes break.

Counter-thesis: single-week dispersion that closes with weather. This read would be wrong if DK1 prints under €70 next week and the cross-border net flows to DE_LU normalise to under +50%.

Finland's coalition under stress

Coalition-partner MPs abstained on Rydman's confidence vote, exposing a rift inside the governing coalition (Yle, 23 June). That's a soft signal — abstentions, not defections — but the autumn budget is where this kind of fracture compounds. One adjacent item adds texture without overreach: locals raised concerns about Russian-billionaire-linked property holdings in Finland (Iltalehti via Verkkouutiset, 21 June), a recurring strategic-asset friction the government will be asked to answer for.

The investment angle is narrow but real. Finnish banks pick up sovereign-spread sensitivity if the coalition wobbles; Helsinki industrials get a discount on any whiff of political instability around defence procurement or property rules around strategic assets.

Counter-thesis: Rydman is one contested portfolio, not a confidence-of-government issue, and the coalition has weathered abstentions before. This would be wrong if the coalition delivers a clean autumn budget without defection.

The southern price ladder (DK1, DK2, NO2, SE4) is doing all the work this week; northern Sweden and northern Norway are barely moving. The DK1→DE_LU and NO2→DE_LU step-changes are the cross-border data points to watch — both prints are multiples of the prior week's net flow.
