§01 · Macro snapshot

External rate and risk backdrop. Nordic central banks set policy locally (Riksbank prints today, §05) but Nordic exporters and credits price global financing off US curves.

Series Latest Prior Δ As of
10Y-2Y Treasury spread 0.34 0.38 -0.04 pp 2026-06-23
10Y-3M Treasury spread 0.65 0.64 +0.01 pp 2026-06-23
High Yield OAS 2.71 % 2.71 % flat 2026-06-23
Initial jobless claims 226 k 230 k -4 k 2026-06-13
Sahm Rule 0.10 0.13 -0.03 2026-05-01

Curve positive at both tenors, HY OAS flat at 2.71 %, claims and Sahm both eased a notch. Read for the Nordics: no global risk-off impulse this week, so the domestic catalysts — today's Riksbank, the heat-dome power spike — carry the local price action without external drag.

§02 · Themes of the week

Heat dome cracks the Nordic grid into two markets

Helsingin Sanomat reports a European heat wave that took a Finnish nuclear reactor offline this week. Ilta-Sanomat tracked storm fronts behind it. Read against §04: Danish day-ahead (DK1 €138, DK2 €137) jumped roughly two-thirds week-on-week. Southern Sweden SE4 came in at €101, southern Norway NO2 at €107. Finland fell 10 % to €32, northern Norway and northern Sweden all under €35. One Nordic grid in name only — in price, two markets running side by side.

The direction is that the gap holds as long as the heat dome holds and southern thermal capacity stays tight. The TSO arbitrage is already pulling: SE3→FI net flow up 112 % w/w, SE4→DK2 up 177 %, DK1→DE_LU up 190 %, NO2→DE_LU up 224 %. For Danish and southern-Swedish industrial buyers — refineries, steel, paper — €130-plus power for two weeks is the kind of print that nudges curtailment math.

Counter-thesis: this is a weather event, not a structural one. The DK price spike reverses inside 10-14 days as fronts move through, and the gap closes back to seasonal norms by July.

This would be wrong if the Finnish reactor stays offline past mid-July, or if German baseload tightens further on heat-driven demand — then the southern prints stick rather than mean-revert.

Finland's coalition rift sharpens around the Rydman vote

Yle reported on 23 June that coalition-partner MPs abstained from the confidence vote on Rydman, deepening the rift inside the governing coalition. Verkkouutiset separately ran a local-concern story about a Russian billionaire's Finnish property holdings.

The direction is fiscal-policy drift. A government carrying internal abstentions on confidence votes does not pass contested spending packages cleanly. The next contested vote becomes the test of whether the rift translates into legislative friction.

Counter-thesis: confidence votes with abstaining partners are routine in Finnish coalition math. The PM survived; nothing breaks until a partner formally exits, and the data does not show that.

This would be wrong if the coalition reaches its next contested vote intact and on schedule — that would mean the rift is mood, not motion.

Iran's Swedish recruitment line stays open

Säpo's renewed warning that Iran continues recruiting young Swedes for attacks ran across Sydsvenskan, Omni and TT Nyhetsbyrån this week. The implication is that the Swedish security service treats the channel as established infrastructure, not a one-off incident.

A read on which kind of headline risk to expect when a Stockholm-area incident lands: assume foreign-state nexus unless ruled out.

Counter-thesis: Säpo warnings are routine public messaging; the service may be managing perception more than escalating threat. The recruitment line can run hot without producing actionable incidents.

This would be wrong if no attempted attack with claimed Iranian linkage surfaces in Swedish reporting through the autumn — that would reframe the warning as preventive posture rather than operational disclosure.

Denmark plays the EU's migration hawk

The Financial Times put Denmark's PM on the record saying EU offshore deportation centres could open by next year. VG covered the domestic counter-pressure: protests demanding her resignation, in a regjeringskrise that escalated out of the flamingoer story.

The direction is that Denmark is using its EU presidency window to push asylum policy further than Brussels would on its own, and accepting the domestic blowback as the price. Watch which other capitals sign onto the offshore-centre language before the autumn EU Council — Italy (Meloni already aligned in tone) is the natural first co-signer to watch.

Counter-thesis: the PM is briefing a position, not announcing a deal. Without a co-signer, the proposal stays a Danish talking point.

This would be wrong if no other member state endorses the offshore-centre framing in the July-August window — that converts the move from policy to posture.
